NFC setup and help

Your card lives at one link. Put that link on anything people can tap or scan.

Write your link to an NFC card

  1. 1

Get a blank NFC card, sticker or key fob. NTAG213, 215 or 216 all work; NTAG215 is the usual pick.

  2. 2

Install a free NFC writing app. NFC Tools works on iPhone and Android.

  3. 3

In the app choose Write, then Add a record, then URL. Paste your link: tap.cove.cards/yourname.

  4. 4

Tap Write and hold the card flat against the top of an iPhone, or the middle of the back of an Android, until it says done.

  5. 5

Test it on a different phone. Your card should open in the browser.

Print your QR code

In the builder, tap QR to download your code with your color and logo, or open your card and tap the QR button. It’s a vector file, so it stays sharp on a business card, a flyer or a yard sign. Print it at least 2 cm (¾ inch) wide.

Which phones work

  • Scanning the QR: any phone with a camera.
  • Tapping on iPhone: XR and newer, no setup. 7, 8 and X through the NFC reader in Control Center.
  • Tapping on Android: most phones from the last several years, with NFC turned on in Settings.

When a tap won’t open

Nothing happens when I tap

Wake and unlock the phone, close the camera, and turn off airplane mode. Hold the card still for a second at the right spot: the top edge by the camera on iPhone, the middle of the back on most Androids. On Android, make sure NFC is on.

It works on some phones and not others

iPhone 7, 8 and X only read NFC from the reader in Control Center. Some budget Androids have no NFC at all. Show your QR code instead; every phone with a camera can scan it.

A sticker on my own phone keeps popping up my card

It’s sitting over your phone’s own reader. Move it lower on the back, away from the camera on iPhone and away from the middle on Android.

Does it work through a phone case?

Through most cases, yes. Metal plates, ring holders and very thick rugged cases can block it. A sticker on the outside of the case always works.

Save contact opens but doesn’t save

On iPhone, scroll down the contact preview and tap Create New Contact. On Android, choose the account to save it to if it asks.

Should I lock the tag?

You can. Your link never changes, even when you edit your card, so a locked tag keeps working and nobody can rewrite it. Locking can’t be undone, so test it first.
